Stories from Bulgaria
2005

This work is a subjective piece of reportage about Bulgaria, the country where I was born. My purpose was to tell – by means of photography and from a personal point of view – about my home country. I intended to capture the current spirit of the country and relate it to my attitude as a Bulgarian who lives abroad, hoping to communicate a feeling rather than an image of the country.

By framing every day situations – quite unspectacular for the people who live there – and seeing something special, absurd therein, I was able to bring something to the surface which was formerly hidden.

The work is a compilation of single stories. They are independent fragments, which are supposed to appear subjective and mysterious, but in their entirety they also reveal something about the country.
